Rust (2025) is a piece completed just in time for the Summer Open Studios. The concept of this work is inspired by a melting iceberg. The shiny new chains contrast with rusty metal parts, where resin holds the elements together and creates the dripping effect of the melting sculpture. This work is part of the factory series, which explores the theme of a crumbling industry reliant on heavy labour and unsafe conditions. In making this work, a new layer of resin would be carefully added every day for 6 days in order for the resin to build up and create the melting effect. This work was more of an experiment rather than a confident execution of some skills, a method to learn more about resin and to combine chain and rust to see how these work together. During the open studio display, I added ice on top of the sculpture to highlight the dripping effect
